More Than a Shelter: 

A Conversation with SPCA Windhoek

There may be no friend quite as loyal—or quite as excited to see you—as an animal friend. Give them even a little love, and they tend to return it a hundredfold, without hesitation.


Yet for many of the wagging tails and soft paws at SPCA Windhoek, life is far more serious than asking for just one more 'Scooby Snack.'  They need medical care, love, and a home.

The Part That Hurts

One topic that's genuinely heartbreaking: hearing about the occasions when animals must be laid to rest. 💔


Life is already so precious, yet severe illness, injury, age, aggression and the circumstances in which some animals arrive, can leave the SPCA—Windhoek team facing decisions most of us would struggle to make. These sad decisions are not taken lightly. They are made after careful consideration by people who have dedicated themselves to caring for animals.


It is such a difficult reality—but also serves an important reminder that animal welfare begins long before an animal reaches the shelter. Education, responsible ownership, sterilisation and greater awareness all matter.

Binary City Return Visit—25 September 2026

We were really moved and had a great experience during our visit earlier this year that we had to do a revisit. The Binary City team will return to SPCA—Windhoek on Friday, 25 September 2026, as part of our BC Saints initiative, SPCA—Windhoek awareness campaign and donation drop.
